Community and Neighborhood Parks
The Reuse Plan for MCAS Tustin approved the conveyance at no cost to the City of Tustin an approximately 25 acre Community Park and two 5 acre Neighborhood Parks for public park and recreation purposes. The City of Tustin is currently selecting a consultant to prepare a Master Park Plan for the proposed Community Park that would identify the type and location of recreational fields and facilities to be constructed at the site. At the present time, it is anticipated that the site will be developed to support a number of active recreational uses including softball, soccer, basketball, tennis courts, a community center, a perimeter jog-walk course, etc. Located directly across from the proposed Urban Regional Park, implementation of the Community Park will meet a community need for active recreational space as well as fulfill the park and recreational needs of nearby residents at the residential development at Tustin Vistas, and support the proposed educational programs proposed by the South Orange County Community College District and Rancho Santiago Community College District, and also support and enhance the recreational facilities provided by an adjacent Elementary School within the Education Center. Construction of the Community Park is anticipated to begin by sometime in 2005.
The City also plans to require Tustin Legacy Community Partners (comprised of Centex, Shea Properties and Shea Homes), the recently selected Master Developer of the proposed Residential Village, to construct two 5 acre Neighborhood Parks intended to support the recreational needs of the nearby residential community. Specific park locations, uses and potential site designs for the two Neighborhood Parks will be developed concurrently with future development plans submitted for the proposed Residential Village. A schedule for development of the Residential Village has not yet been developed. When completed one of the Neighborhood Parks will support and enhance the recreational facilities provided by an adjacent Elementary School also planned in that area.
