On Wednesday, November 9, 2005, the Rancho Santiago Community College District held a groundbreaking ceremony for a new Sheriff’s Regional Training Academy. Over 150 representatives from the education, law enforcement, government and business communities were in attendance.
The 50,000 square-foot facility will be built on 15 acres adjacent to the Advanced Technology and Education Park (ATEP). The facility will be a testament to a 35-year-old partnership forged by the Orange County Sheriff’s Department and Rancho Santiago Community College District. If will include a multi-purpose room accommodating 1,300 people, classrooms, lecture halls, a state-of-the-art multi-media production section and offices and will feature obstacle and tactical training courses. To meet increased community needs for peace officers, greater instructional capacity could provide training for as many as 400 students annually, as compared to the current capacity of 170.
Construction is expected to be completed by spring 2007 |
