Tustin Legacy Project Overview
The Tustin Legacy Project is located in Southern California near the center of Orange County and is approximately 40 miles southeast of Downtown Los Angeles. The majority of the MCAS-Tustin base is located in the City of Tustin (about 1511 acres) and a portion is located in the City of Irvine (about 95 acres).

History of Closure of MCAS-Tustin
The Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS-Tustin) closed on July 3, 1999, in accordance with the Base Realignment and Closure Act.

Development of Proposed Land Uses
In late 1991 the City of Tustin was designated as the Lead Agency or Local Redevelopment Authority (LRA) for the preparation of the required reuse planning documents. The City of Tustin determined that the most appropriate tool to guide the conversion of the base was the preparation of a Specific Plan/Reuse Plan.
The Specific Plan/Reuse Plan includes detailed planning, policies, regulations, implementation strategies and procedures necessary to guide the reuse and development of the site into the next century. The MCAS-Tustin Specific Plan/Reuse plan is intended to serve as both a policy-oriented and regulatory document. The plan will eventually be adopted as the zoning for the property.
The Land Use Plan and its buildout potential is summarized in the summary table. Click here for details...
